OS Explorer map 451 shows the far North-East of Scotland. John o'Groats is not technically the most northerly village, but that has not stopped it becoming a major tourist attraction.

Thurso is a pleasant town and an excellent base in the area, with ferry connections to the Orkney Islands. Exploring south from here you will find an area of gentle hills, scattered lochs and bog areas.
